António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, has warned that the ongoing conflict involving Iran has spiraled “out of control,” raising fears of a wider global confrontation. Speaking in New York, he stressed that the war has exceeded expected limits, bringing rising human suffering and serious economic risks.
Guterres urged all parties, including the United States and Israel, to end military escalation and return to diplomacy. He also called on Iran to halt attacks on Gulf countries, noting they are not direct participants in the conflict.
The situation has intensified as missile and drone strikes targeted Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Saudi authorities reported intercepting multiple drones and a ballistic missile, with no casualties but minor property damage. In Kuwait, a drone strike caused a fire at a fuel facility, while Bahrain issued public safety alerts.
Guterres also highlighted the economic impact, warning that disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz are affecting global supplies of oil gas and fertilizer. He further urged Israel to halt operations in Lebanon to avoid worsening civilian suffering.
The conflict, ongoing since late February continues to escalate, threatening regional stability and global markets.
