Punjab Minister Uzma Bukhari recorded her statement as a witness in the fake video case, with the court scheduling her cross-examination for Sept. 12.
LAHORE: Punjab Provincial Minister Uzma Bukhari recorded her statement as a witness Wednesday in the fake video case being heard at the Lahore District Courts.
During the hearing, lawyer Ali Ashfaq said he would require at least six hours to cross-examine Bukhari. He also told the court that the proceedings had been conducted during the judicial break, saying the development showed that the case was an “unusual” one.
Ashfaq said the case had been facing delays for about a year, while Bukhari’s lawyer rejected allegations of delaying tactics.
“We have never used delaying tactics,” Bukhari’s lawyer said, adding that they had been requesting from the beginning that her statement be recorded through video link.
The lawyer said it was necessary to respond to allegations that the defense had been using delaying tactics and maintained that no special treatment had been sought in the case.
Judge Naeem Wattoo also addressed the issue during the hearing, saying the court had not provided any special treatment in the case.
“If someone comes to the court and says to schedule the case for 1 p.m., I do not refuse,” Judge Wattoo said.
Bukhari, however, alleged that special treatment was being provided to the accused. She said the accused remained seated in court and came prepared from jail for the proceedings.
