Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday praised the strength of bilateral ties during a video call held ahead of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
In remarks broadcast on Russian state television Putin described relations between Moscow and Beijing as a key stabilising factor amid growing global uncertainty. He highlighted close cooperation in the energy sector calling it mutually beneficial and strategically important.
Xi urged both sides to develop a grand plan to further advance bilateral relations saying China Russia ties were moving in the right direction.He stressed the importance of maintaining close high-level exchanges and expanding practical cooperation across multiple fields according to China’s state broadcaster CCTV.
The two countries declared a no limits strategic partnership shortly before Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.Since then China has become a crucial economic partner for Russia as Western sanctions intensified.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said the talks lasted over an hour and confirmed that Putin accepted an invitation to visit China in the first half of this year.Both leaders agreed to expand trade particularly in energy, and noted that their positions aligned closely on most international issues.
The call came amid heightened global tensions, including the impending expiration of a key nuclear arms reduction treaty between Russia and the United States.
