Punjab’s “Driving License Campaign” combines technology and enforcement to streamline licensing and promote road safety.
Lahore: In an unprecedented feat, the Punjab government and traffic police have successfully issued 5.5 million driving licenses across the province in just 100 days, marking a historic achievement in road safety and regulatory compliance.
The initiative, launched under the Chief Minister’s “Driving License Campaign,” has not only increased public awareness about legal obligations but also contributed significantly to provincial revenue.
Leveraging technology, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) introduced the ‘DLIMS 2.0’ online portal, enabling citizens to apply for learner licenses and renewals from the comfort of their homes. The digital platform has drastically reduced long queues at licensing centers.
To enhance accessibility, traffic police extended operating hours at licensing offices and introduced 24/7 services in major cities. Mobile licensing vans also delivered services directly to educational institutions and workplaces, ensuring widespread reach.
The provincial government simultaneously enforced strict crackdowns on traffic violations, particularly targeting unlicensed drivers. This proactive approach encouraged citizens to obtain proper licensing to avoid legal complications.
The 5.5 million licenses issued include learner, regular, international, and renewals, covering all categories. Experts suggest that this large-scale licensing drive will improve road safety, as more drivers are now certified through official tests and regulations.
