Government directs essential staff to remain on standby while enforcing temporary remote work policy in high-security zone
ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Division of Pakistan has issued a notification directing a work-from-home policy for specific federal government personnel stationed in the Red Zone of Islamabad for Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
According to the official directive, all federal government offices located within the high-security Red Zone will remain physically closed for the day, with employees instructed to perform their duties remotely.
The notification clarified that officers and secretarial staff must remain at their respective stations and stay fully accessible, ensuring they can report to the office on short notice if required.
Authorities emphasized that the measure is temporary and has been implemented as a precautionary step, though no detailed explanation regarding the underlying reasons was provided.
The Red Zone in Islamabad houses key government buildings, including the Prime Minister’s Office, Parliament House, and foreign missions, making it one of the most sensitive administrative areas in the country.
Officials reiterated that continuity of government operations will be maintained through remote working arrangements, with departments expected to remain fully functional despite physical restrictions.
The directive highlights the government’s focus on maintaining operational readiness while addressing evolving security and administrative considerations in the federal capital.
