PESHAWAR: Authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have announced significant relaxations in lockdown restrictions ahead of Eid ul Adha, allowing businesses and commercial centers to operate without earlier limitations in a move expected to boost economic activity before the religious festival.
In Peshawar, officials confirmed that the smart lockdown imposed in parts of the city has been lifted. A public notice issued by the provincial chief secretary stated that all restrictions related to business and market operating hours had been withdrawn with immediate effect.
Authorities also abolished fixed timings for commercial activities until further notice, enabling traders and shopkeepers to continue operations without the earlier curbs introduced under energy conservation measures.
Despite the relaxation, the provincial government urged citizens to avoid unnecessary electricity consumption and continue supporting national energy-saving efforts amid ongoing pressure on the power sector.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan Home Department announced similar easing measures across the province for Eid ul Adha. According to an official notification, the relaxation will remain effective until June 1.
Under the revised arrangements, all shops, shopping malls, markets and business centers across Balochistan will be allowed to remain open, providing relief to traders and consumers preparing for Eid-related shopping.
The federal government had earlier imposed nationwide restrictions under an energy conservation policy aimed at reducing electricity usage and controlling pressure on the national grid. The latest decisions by provincial authorities indicate a balancing effort between economic activity and energy management as Eid ul Adha approaches.
