LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz departed on a three-day official visit to Azerbaijan on Saturday to represent Pakistan at the prestigious World Urban Forum being held in Baku from May 17 to 20.
The visit is being viewed as an important diplomatic and international engagement for the Punjab government, as the chief minister is expected to participate in discussions focused on urban development, sustainable cities and global cooperation.
According to official sources, Maryam Nawaz is scheduled to meet the President of Azerbaijan on May 17 during her stay in Baku. The meeting is expected to focus on bilateral cooperation and matters of mutual interest between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
The Punjab chief minister will also attend the World Leaders Summit at the Baku Olympic Stadium, where she is expected to address international delegates and highlight Pakistan’s commitment to urban modernization and sustainable development initiatives.
Officials said the chief minister will be hosted as a special state guest during her visit, reflecting the close diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari are accompanying the chief minister during the official trip.
The World Urban Forum brings together world leaders, policymakers and urban development experts to discuss challenges related to rapid urbanization, climate resilience, infrastructure and sustainable growth in major cities across the globe.
