KP Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi says FIA immigration officials prevented him from traveling abroad despite a court order, raising concerns over legal compliance and academic representation.
PESHAWAR: A fresh controversy has emerged after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Higher Education and Local Government, Meena Khan Afridi, was stopped at Peshawar’s Bacha Khan International Airport while attempting to travel abroad.
According to the minister, officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration department prevented him from boarding his international flight despite a court order that, he claims, allowed his travel.
Speaking after the incident, Afridi expressed disappointment over what he described as the non-implementation of a high court directive. He questioned why a judicial order was allegedly not honored and argued that the situation was affecting opportunities for the province’s youth.
The minister stated that he had been invited to participate in an academic engagement at University of Tübingen, one of Germany’s renowned higher education institutions. He said the visit was intended to represent educational interests and explore opportunities that could benefit students from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Afridi further maintained that preventing his participation in the event could deprive young people in the province of potential academic and international collaboration opportunities. The FIA has not yet publicly responded to the minister’s allegations.
The incident is likely to generate debate over the enforcement of court orders, travel restrictions, and the broader impact of such disputes on educational and governmental initiatives in the province.
