ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League (PML) has formally entered the political arena for the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections after issuing party tickets to a series of candidates across key constituencies, signaling the start of an aggressive election campaign in the region.
According to party spokesperson Mustafa Malik, the tickets were approved by Parliamentary Board Chairman Chaudhry Salik Hussain as the party finalized preparations to contest elections on a “development and public welfare agenda.”
The spokesperson said members of the parliamentary board, including Tariq Hassan, Dr. Muhammad Amjad, Malik Sameen, Kamran Usmani and Niaz Khaskheli, also visited Gilgit and Skardu to review political preparations and organizational matters ahead of the polls.
Provincial President Dulfaraz Khan briefed the central leadership regarding election arrangements and party mobilization in different districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The party announced candidates from multiple constituencies, including Gilgit, Nagar, Hunza, Skardu, Astore, Diamer, Ghizer and Ghanche.
According to the official list, Dulfaraz Khan has been nominated from GBA-1 Gilgit-I, while Asim Khan will contest from GBA-2. Muhammad Sharif received the party ticket for GBA-3 Gilgit-III.
In Nagar, Abid Hussain was nominated from GBA-5 Nagar-I, while female candidate Khushnoor Deedar will represent the party from GBA-6 Hunza-I, making her one of the prominent women candidates announced so far in the election race.
Captain Muhammad Sikandar Ali was awarded the ticket for GBA-8 Skardu-II, while Captain (Retired) Mehdi Khan will contest from GBA-12 Shigar-I.
For Astore and Diamer constituencies, Ghazanfar Akram Khan was nominated from GBA-14 Astore-II, while Noorul Haq Habul Haq Khan will contest from GBA-15 Diamer-I.
The party also finalized candidates for Ghizer constituencies, naming Sher Alam Guzri for GBA-19 Ghizer-I, Bakhtawar Shah for GBA-20 Ghizer-II and Tajwar Hussain for GBA-21 Ghizer-III.
In Ghanche, Sheikh Altaf Hussain was nominated from GBA-24 Ghanche-III.
Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Salik Hussain said the Pakistan Muslim League was entering Gilgit-Baltistan politics with a vision focused on public service, development and prosperity. He added that the party would actively participate in the elections under a comprehensive progress-oriented manifesto.
Provincial President Dulfaraz Khan said all candidates had full confidence in the party leadership and vowed to run a vigorous election campaign across the region in the coming weeks.
