Iranian foreign minister says Tehran remains firm on defending its people and has no plans for negotiations with Washington.
ISLAMABAD: Iran has never asked the United States for a ceasefire and remains prepared to defend itself for as long as necessary, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a recent interview with American media.
Araghchi stated that Tehran has neither expressed a desire for negotiations nor made any request for a truce with Washington. According to him, Iran is not willing to enter into ceasefire talks and will continue to defend itself until the situation changes.
He added that Iran will maintain its defensive stance “for as long as needed” until former U.S. President Donald Trump understands that the conflict is an “illegal war.”
The Iranian foreign minister emphasized that the country remains stable and strong, stressing that Iran’s actions are solely aimed at protecting its people.
“We see no reason to talk with the United States,” Araghchi said, noting that Iran’s previous experience with negotiations has not been positive. He claimed that while talks were underway in the past, the U.S. carried out attacks against Iran.
Araghchi also revealed that several countries have recently contacted Tehran regarding passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.
