Islamabad Orders Early Market Closures Amid Austerity Measures from April 16

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Authorities in Islamabad impose strict closing hours for businesses under new austerity measures effective April 16, 2026.

Islamabad: The Office of the District Magistrate in Islamabad has issued a new notification enforcing early closing hours for businesses across the capital, effective April 16, 2026, as part of ongoing austerity measures.

According to the official order, all shops, markets and shopping malls must close by 8:00 pm throughout the week, including weekends. However, essential services such as pharmacies, medical facilities, petrol pumps, CNG stations and milk shops are exempt from the restriction.

The notification further states that hotels, restaurants, food outlets, grocery stores, meat shops, fruit and vegetable vendors, and bakeries are allowed to operate until 10:00 pm. Takeaway and home delivery services will continue without any time restrictions.

In addition, marriage halls, marquees and other commercial venues hosting events are required to shut down by 10:00 pm, including private event locations. Sports facilities, clubs and gyms must close earlier at 8:00 pm.

Officials said the directive will remain in force until further notice as authorities attempt to manage energy consumption and economic efficiency in the federal capital.
