Protesters in Wana urged the government to reduce fuel prices, regulate public transport fares, and abolish taxes imposed on the former FATA region.
South Waziristan Lower, Pakistan — Responding to a nationwide call by Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, party workers and local residents staged a protest in Rustam Bazaar, Wana, against rising fuel prices, what they described as unfair public transport fares, and taxes imposed on the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
The demonstration was organized by Jamaat-e-Islami South Waziristan Lower and drew participation from District Ameer Asadullah Bheer, former district chief Nadeem Khan, District Qayyim Abdul Wahab, Maulana Muhammad Umar Wazir, party leaders, tribal elders, traders, and residents. Participants carried banners and placards criticizing inflation, increased taxes, and transport fare hikes.
Addressing the gathering, Asadullah Bheer said soaring inflation, repeated increases in petroleum prices, and additional taxes had placed an unbearable burden on ordinary citizens. He argued that residents of the former FATA, who have endured years of insecurity, displacement, and underdevelopment, should not face further taxation.
He also criticized what he called unjustified increases in local public transport fares, saying they were disproportionately affecting students, laborers, employees, and daily commuters. He urged the government to regulate transport fares and provide meaningful relief to the public.
