Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directs officials to accelerate drainage operations and strengthen safety measures amid heavy rainfall.
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered authorities to ensure the fastest possible drainage of rainwater and keep public safety measures fully operational as several parts of the province experience heavy rainfall.
The chief minister directly contacted the deputy commissioners of Rawalpindi, Attock and Gujrat to receive updates on the situation following the rains. She also reviewed the progress of water drainage operations and praised officials for clearing accumulated rainwater from several areas within a few hours.
Maryam Nawaz directed the administration to use all available resources to facilitate residents and prevent prolonged waterlogging on roads and in populated areas. She stressed the need for swift action after rainfall so that normal movement and daily activities can resume as quickly as possible.
The chief minister also issued specific instructions regarding Nullah Lai in Rawalpindi, where the possibility of a surge in rainwater requires enhanced precautionary and safety measures. Officials were directed to remain vigilant and take timely steps to protect residents and infrastructure in vulnerable areas.
The latest directives come as authorities continue monitoring rainfall-related conditions across affected districts. Rapid drainage is particularly important in urban areas, where accumulated water can disrupt traffic, affect residential neighborhoods and create difficulties for commuters.
