QatarEnergy confirms widespread damage at Ras Laffan as investigators probe the source of the missile attack amid regional escalation.
A missile strike has hit Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, causing significant damage to refinery operations, according to a statement from state-owned QatarEnergy. The facility, one of the world’s largest hubs for liquefied natural gas (LNG) production and hydrocarbon processing, was reportedly struck amid heightened regional tensions and warnings linked to threats against Gulf energy infrastructure.
Officials confirmed that emergency response systems were activated immediately after the blast, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby high-pressure gas units. Despite what QatarEnergy described as “widespread damage” to parts of the refinery, all personnel on-site were safely accounted for, with no reported injuries or fatalities.
The incident marks a serious escalation in regional instability, raising concerns over the security of critical energy infrastructure that plays a central role in global supply chains. Analysts are now examining possible trajectories of the missile to determine its origin, while Qatari security forces remain on high alert.
No group has claimed responsibility for the strike. However, the geopolitical context has intensified speculation about deliberate targeting of energy assets in the Gulf region. The disruption has prompted fears of potential volatility in international energy markets, given Ras Laffan’s strategic importance to global LNG exports.
QatarEnergy said technical teams are conducting urgent safety inspections before restoration work begins. The government in Doha has called for an international investigation, emphasizing the need to safeguard energy infrastructure that underpins both national stability and global economic security.
