The Pakistan Airports Authority has issued a new NOTAM extending the closure of Pakistan’s airspace for Indian airlines and aircraft operated by Indian operators. The 12th NOTAM released on Wednesday afternoon, enforces the ban on Indian registered planes including civilian and military aircraft, for an additional month.
According to the notice Pakistani airspace will remain closed to Indian flights until 5:00 AM on April 24, 2026. The airspace restriction was initially imposed on April 23, 2025, following heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, and with the new extension, the closure will complete a full year.
The ban has affected over 200 daily commercial flights between the two countries, forcing Indian airlines to reroute long-haul services and establish new stopovers in third countries. Passengers have also been shifted to alternative international carriers, causing significant operational and financial losses for Indian airlines, estimated in billions of rupees.
The extension highlights the ongoing geopolitical tensions between the two neighboring countries and underscores the impact on regional civil aviation international connectivity and airline revenue.
