Pakistan Women Spinners Target Asia Cup, Asian Games Success Through Consistency

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Nashra Sandhu and Tuba Hassan believe better preparation, consistency and exposure to top opposition can help Pakistan women produce stronger results.

LAHORE: Pakistan women’s cricket team spinners Nashra Sandhu and Tuba Hassan have expressed confidence in the squad’s preparations for the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup and Asian Games, stressing that consistency will be crucial to converting strong performances into victories.

Speaking during the team’s training camp in Lahore, Sandhu said the squad was preparing for different opponents while working to improve every aspect of its game.

Pakistan’s spinners could play a key role in the UAE, where conditions are expected to favor slow bowling. Sandhu said the team was focused on adapting its plans according to the opposition and match situation rather than relying on a single strategy.

“We prepare according to every opponent,” Sandhu said, emphasizing the need to maintain consistency during crucial stages of matches.

The spinner acknowledged that Pakistan have at times produced encouraging performances but failed to finish games strongly. She said the team was working to address those lapses and develop greater consistency in areas where it has already shown promise.

Matches against India bring an additional level of pressure. Sandhu said players prepare carefully for such contests because the side that handles pressure better on match day often gains the advantage.

Tuba Hassan also highlighted the importance of preparing for conditions in Dubai. The leg-spinner said Pakistani players are familiar with the UAE environment, but specific training for those conditions remains essential ahead of the tournament.

She said the team was concentrating on minimizing mistakes, particularly because small errors can have a significant impact in T20 cricket. Training sessions are being designed around different match situations, including pressure scenarios, to help players make better decisions when the stakes are high.

Tuba also revealed that coach Wahab Riaz has been challenging players with different situations during practice to prepare them for the demands of international cricket.

The leg-spinner admitted that Pakistan still face a psychological hurdle against top-ranked sides despite having competed strongly against leading teams in the past. She said more bilateral series against the world’s top four teams would help Pakistan bridge the gap and build confidence.

The experience of players competing overseas could also benefit the squad. Tuba said Fatima Sana had shared lessons from her stint in The Hundred with her teammates, providing insight into playing at a high level abroad.

With the Asia Cup and Asian Games ahead, Pakistan will hope improved preparation, greater consistency and exposure to elite opposition can translate into stronger results.
