PCB seeks public and corporate proposals to modernize Gaddafi Stadium and fund domestic cricket.
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced plans to rename Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium, sparking curiosity among cricket fans nationwide. The move, the PCB says, aims to boost revenue, modernize facilities, and strengthen domestic cricket.
Announced on Thursday, the PCB is inviting proposals from the public and businesses until March 24, with the ultimate goal of selling the stadium’s naming rights to a corporate sponsor. Analysts estimate the deal could generate around Rs1 billion over five years, a model common in international sports where corporate-backed stadiums fund better facilities for fans.
The funds generated won’t just sit idle; they will primarily help upgrade stadium infrastructure, enhance domestic cricket programs, and support the national team’s operations in a rapidly evolving sporting environment.
In 2024, a similar attempt with a private bank failed, leaving the stadium’s name unchanged. The new process offers sponsors and stakeholders another opportunity to shape the future of this historic venue.
As cricket enthusiasts and potential sponsors prepare to submit their proposals, Gaddafi Stadium may soon embark on a new chapter that blends Pakistan’s rich cricketing history with the business of modern sport.
