PM Shehbaz Sharif reviews the Special Relief Scheme and directs authorities, volunteers and petrol station staff to assist eligible citizens with registration and subsidy procedures.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday chaired a review meeting on the progress of the PM Special Relief Scheme, aimed at providing fuel subsidy relief to low-income and middle-class citizens amid rising petroleum prices and the situation in the Gulf.
According to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Press Release No. 354/2026, the scheme provides fuel subsidies to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engines of up to 800cc.
The prime minister directed the establishment of facilitation desks comprising administration officials, volunteers and petrol station staff to make it easier for eligible citizens to access the subsidy.
He instructed the personnel at these desks to guide deserving citizens through the process and provide all possible assistance with registration and other required procedures.
The prime minister also directed the relevant authorities to remain active in creating public awareness about the scheme so that eligible citizens can understand the registration process and avail themselves of the available relief.
The latest review comes as the government continues the rollout of its targeted fuel relief mechanism. Earlier, officials briefed the prime minister that more than 600,000 SMS messages had been received from the Islamabad region, with 42,933 applicants successfully registered for the scheme.
The registration process requires four basic pieces of information: the applicant’s Computerized National Identity Card number, vehicle number plate, province of registration and vehicle registration date. The government has also directed that the SMS required for registration be made free of charge.
Under the scheme, eligible motorcycles and three-wheelers can receive relief of Rs100 per litre for up to 20 litres per month, while eligible cars up to 800cc can receive the same per-litre relief for up to 30 litres per month. The scheme uses a digital registration, token generation and verification mechanism.
The government has said the scheme is intended to provide targeted relief to eligible consumers affected by higher fuel costs, with the rollout being extended beyond Islamabad to the rest of the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
