The special scheme will provide relief on 20 litres of petrol per month for two- and three-wheelers and 30 litres for vehicles up to 800cc.
LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a special relief scheme to reduce the impact of rising petrol prices on the public amid recent tensions in the Middle East and higher global oil prices.
The prime minister said the government fully understands the burden being placed on people due to the increase in oil prices and will not leave the public alone during the difficult situation.
Under the special relief scheme, users of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqis and vehicles with engines up to 800cc will receive a relief of Rs100 per litre on petrol.
Motorcycle, rickshaw and Qingqi users, along with other two- and three-wheelers, will receive the Rs100-per-litre relief on up to 20 litres of petrol per month.
Owners of small cars with engines up to 800cc will receive the same relief on up to 30 litres of petrol per month.
The scheme will take effect within Islamabad Capital Territory during the night between Monday and Tuesday, while it will be implemented across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, during the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
Registration for the special relief scheme has started from Sunday. The procedure will be communicated to the public through an awareness campaign.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also thanked the provinces for their cooperation in providing information about motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles for registration under the scheme.
