Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed has challenged his 10-year prison sentence before the Lahore High Court in connection with the May 9 violence cases, marking a significant legal development in the ongoing proceedings.
Through his counsel, Sikandar Zulqarnain, the former provincial minister filed an appeal against the trial court’s verdict in the case related to the burning of police vehicles in Lahore’s Mughalpura area. The petition argues that the judgment is contrary to the facts and evidence presented during the trial.
According to the appeal, the prosecution failed to produce credible and sufficient evidence linking Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed to the alleged offense. The petitioner has requested the Lahore High Court to declare the conviction void and set aside the sentence.
The appeal further contends that the trial court’s decision was inconsistent with applicable law and the available evidence, urging the court to grant appropriate legal relief.
