Punjab Safe Cities Authority launches an advanced QR-based panic button system to modernize passenger security under the Digital Punjab initiative.
Punjab has unveiled a major step toward smart urban safety with the launch of the “CM Punjab QR Panic Button System,” designed to strengthen protection for passengers using public transport across the province. Introduced under the Digital Punjab vision, the initiative aims to enhance real-time security coordination and build public confidence in daily travel.
According to officials, the system will be integrated into the Safe City digital network and installed across buses, vans, taxis, and rickshaws. By scanning a QR code, passengers can instantly access verified information about the vehicle, driver, and owner, while also sharing trip details with family members for added assurance.
In emergencies, users can trigger immediate assistance through call, video, or live chat connected directly to Safe City helplines. The system transmits real-time location and vehicle data to control rooms, enabling rapid police response through advanced command infrastructure.
Authorities say the platform also supports drivers and ensures updated records by deactivating and reissuing QR codes when ownership changes. The initiative is expected to significantly improve safety for women, students, and daily commuters while reinforcing technology-driven governance in Punjab.
