Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Eid ul Fitr will be observed on Friday March 20 after the Shawwal moon was not sighted anywhere in the Kingdom.
Meetings were held at various observatories across the country to sight the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan. The Saudi Supreme Court had also urged citizens to participate in moon sighting efforts and report any verified observations. However no credible testimonies of moon sighting were received from any region.
After reviewing reports from observatories and Ruet e Hilal committees nationwide the Supreme Court confirmed that the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri will complete 30 days. As a result the first day of Shawwal will fall on March 20 marking the celebration of Eid ul Fitr across the Kingdom.
The announcement provides clarity for millions of Muslims in Saudi Arabia, allowing them to prepare for the religious festivities. Eid ul Fitr one of the most significant Islamic festivals marks the end of fasting and is celebrated with prayers charity and gatherings with family and friends.
