Local leaders warn of worsening public hardship and economic disruption if authorities fail to act promptly
WANA: Political leaders and tribal elders in South Waziristan Lower have demanded the immediate reopening of the Azam Warsak Road at Paly Chowk, citing severe public hardship and disruption to daily life.
A consultative meeting was held in Rustam Bazaar, Wana, where representatives from various political parties and local elders gathered to discuss the ongoing road closure. Participants unanimously urged district authorities and police to open at least a five-yard stretch of the blocked road to restore traffic flow.
Speakers including Pakistan Peoples Party District General Secretary Imran Mukhlis, Jamaat-e-Islami District Ameer Asadullah, and former independent candidate Taj Wazir highlighted the growing difficulties faced by residents. They noted that the situation worsens during rains, as the alternate dirt route becomes unusable, affecting students, commuters, and patients.
Leaders warned that the upcoming fruit and vegetable season could further aggravate the issue, as nearly 70 percent of the region’s produce depends on this route for transportation.
The participants also expressed concern over delays in medical emergencies and daily commuting challenges caused by the closure. They emphasized that resolving public issues is the responsibility of the district administration and called for urgent action.
The meeting concluded with a decision to convene a grand jirga next Friday in Azam Warsak Bazaar if authorities fail to respond. Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing peaceful and constitutional means to resolve the issue.
Separately, concerns were raised over deteriorating law and order in parts of Tehsil Birmal, with calls for immediate government intervention to ensure stability and public safety.
