The Islamabad Press Club elections witnessed a major upset as the united opposition Democrats Panel claimed a significant victory. Abdul Razaq Siyal from the Democrats Panel was elected president with 1,067 votes narrowly defeating Neer Ali of the Journalists Panel who secured 1,052 votes.
The Democrats Panel also secured the positions of secretary and two vice presidents, while Abid Abbasi of the Journalists Panel won the secretary finance seat, defeating Khawar Nawaz Raja. Additionally, Journalists Panel candidates Shakeela Jaleel (joint secretary) and Saharish Qureshi also emerged victorious.
In the vice president category, Ihtisham ul Haq of the Journalists Panel won with 1,202 votes. Democrats Panel candidates Bashir Chaudhry and Usman Khan were also elected as vice presidents with Bashir Chaudhry receiving 1,076 votes and Usman Khan 1,015 votes.
The elections witnessed intense competition, and a large turnout of journalists cast their votes to select their representatives. Following the declaration of results, supporters of the Democrats Panel congratulated Abdul Razaq Siyal, calling his victory a positive omen. The election process, which included a lengthy counting procedure was completed under the supervision of the Press Club Election Commission, ensuring transparency.
