Doha: Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari has said that no preconditions should be imposed for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
During a press briefing in Doha, he stated that the security of the Strait of Hormuz must not be put at risk by any party.
He added that Qatar is in contact with its partners to reopen the vital maritime route in order to prevent global economic losses.
Speaking to journalists, Al-Ansari said that a ceasefire does not necessarily mean the end of war. He added that Qatar is awaiting confirmation of a new round of talks in Pakistan and fully supports Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts.
In response to a question, the Qatari spokesperson said that the solution to the crisis should be regional and must include all countries whose borders are affected or whose trade depends on this sea route.
Majed Al-Ansari further said that regional contacts are ongoing to reduce tensions and ensure the success of mediation efforts.
He also denied reports of any deal with Iran to stop attacks on Qatar, saying there has been no contact with Iran and that Qatar’s focus is currently on national security and defense.
